Deamdocsinization

Good time flies…
..And standing on the verge of my 432 weeks long association with Amdocs I shall be the apt most person to say so.

I can still remember my first day at Amdocs when a young boy just out of his college, walked in, only to find everything larger than life, yet real, yet poised. I would be untrue to myself if I don’t confess it that initially I found all you alienated, but sooner than later, I turned one.

I had my share of sweet and sour here, but what kept me going was the fact that the second derivation of my knowledge graph almost always remained negative (attaining local maxima). Say it professional, say it technical, say it business or say it just be mere art of surviving, I was ending each day being better than yesterday. In the course, I was fortunate enough to have met some really inspiring and motivating personas, some of them will keep me inspired for a lifetime, undoubtedly.

I also take it as my sheer luck to have intermingled and be mentored by some of the sharpest minds working for the industry. I have witness such beautifully done code (and contributed my bit to it), almost poetic, of SOM, MEC, BSC, SmallCell, GAMMA, DOP and SFO. If coding is making music, (to me) DOP deserves a Grammy. And the best of all, amongst all this, is that I managed to make many good friends around and many more professional acquaintance here. Hope to keep hearing about your well-being, goodness and progress in future too.

Amdocs also took me to different lands, each weaving stories and experiences I would surely treasure for long. Be it that 2 AM frisking in Tel Aviv or that being lost in a shanty Mexican town, each trip had, in some or the other way, turned adventurous. I have returned home being more awesome a person, from each of those.

It’s already good past mid-day here and someone is already standing behind me take away my armor (my workstation). Soon I will be history, but before that is done and I’m found listed in “there was one” list, I want to end my swan song with something that will probably be a summing up of all running in me, right now.

सोचां था तेरे नारंगी रंग में अपना क्षितिज ढूँढ लूँगा,
पर शायद मेरे आस्मां को अभी रंगों की जरूरत और भी है |

PS: A big thanks also goes out to the chefs in Amdocs kitchens for keeping me healthily fed, the housekeeping staff for keeping my place clean and sparkling always and the drivers of my morning 0812 Hrs. bus to Amdocs for making “the bus” as the thing of my mornings that runs with a time precision of minutes.

HOW TO CRACK INTO AMDOCS

I would like to share with you my interview experience with one of the most reputed IT firm in Telecom sector i.e."Amdocs"

To start off it was in  Aug 2010 end and after the major recession hit the market and economy had started gathering some pace and which in result did created

some opening in the slump market after almost a year. It wae a open campus in Amdocs and after few days I got mail from Amdocs that I have to attend the

apptitude test in Magarpatta City,Pune where they have there office and they did communicate me about the rounds and the process. There were atleast 4000

students that day for the drive.

That Saturday I had my first round i.e. written round, the office is build up in a very nice location and the infrastructure if the office is very good.
We were seated in a cafeteria and we were to complete our 6 section online written test conducted by some third party for Amdocs. We have to complete our

test in stipulated time of 120 minutes (2hrs.)
The test consisted of the following:

1) It had 6 sections in all and each section has particular time limit and marks.
2) In the entire 6 sections there were around 105 questions
3) You have to complete the test in the time frame allocated to that particular test.
4) There were no negative marking.
5) You cannot come back to the previous section of test as it is time frame compliant.
6) You need to score minimum of 50+% in order to clear this round.
7) It had various sections viz :
a. Aptitude
b. Maths
c. English Comprehension
d. Testing
e. SQL
f. Unix

My personal Advice is that please don't apply for Amdocs if you are not clear with your SQL and UNIX as it is pre condition if you want to be part of Amdocs

as all or major of there projects require these skills.

My results were mailed to me in next 2 weeks (it took this long because of this large number otherwise it takes less) as I was short listed in this round

then I had to go for the second round which was technical interview round. My interview was scheduled at 11am and it almost started on time with two

interviewers starting it off with their introduction and then drilling deep and trying to capture my knowledge about Testing, Unix and SQL. . Please do study

SQL and UNIX as they would not entertain you if you are weak in these areas as it's a precondition to join Amdocs. After that we had 1st round of technical

interview and my interview lasted for almost 45minutes in that they asked me almost everything about C, C++, Testing, Unix and SQL. I think that there was

nothing left to ask about that more in c,java,DBMS. I waited outside and was eager to hear the good news as I was almost certain that I would be able to

clear this as my interview went of pretty well..

Now just one round was left to crack which was HR and Negotiations round my HR round was scheduled in next half an hour and they asked pretty obvious

questions such as :

1) What do you know about Amdocs ?
2) Tell about your few quality traits that can let the organization grow?
3) What all appreciations you have got and for what ?
4) How is it better from your previous organization?
5) Why do you want to join Amodocs?
6) What is your expected salary?
7) Where do you see yourself after 5 years?

And few other HR related questions the HR told me to fill a form and congratulated me for being a part of AMDOCS . One week later they mailed me my offer

letter.

Thanks.

HUNDRED DAYS IN OFFICE

America’s president gives it, Indian prime minister also started it and lots of other EU countries take it more seriously. So I also thought of giving my report on completion of Hundred Days in office.

A lion from college, who always thinks that this world it too small for him or he is present in a wrong world makes it to AMDOCS DVCI without any effort (and I mean it, not even a single effort made by me to grab it). In office, he finds a different world all together. A “student” turns  “professional”. Everyone make him feel special, enjoys being called “SIR”. What more one can ask for, the “HONEYMOON” with the company was going far more better than expected.

The honey moon was at its fullest, and come one more blast. I was selected in “R&D Team”, will be working on the some of the best of minds here in India and Israel . What a dude just out of college needs, than to work in some R&D project.

But then good days go away  far more early than it should. The day I joined my team, I found all of them as if from some other planet. They don’t speak English neither Hindi, they speak in some alien language. “Build, Jameleon, Sanity, WAS, Nightly” and what not. the only word I recognized is “CODE PHAT GAYA”. I knew my days ahead are going to be hard and they were.

Next 30 days were some of the most difficult days till date, I really feels bad when someone says to you that “college me kya kiya tha”.

Finally I am also turning into “ALIEN”. Thing are now settling down (but still a lots more to learn and do). Hoping my association with AMDOCS goes far more and I also turn out to be a good and successful ALIEN.
